The purpose of breathing deeply

Question:   There was something about oxygen and sleep during the class. For a while, we were breathing deeply. When I think about the value of sleep, to me the main thing is getting more oxygen. When I try to breathe deeply, it always seems kind of forced. Is there some way to get more oxygen when you are awake? Is deep breathing the only way?

Divine Mother:
  The system has to be trained to receive more oxygen. The system has been sluggish, so the deep breathing is training the system to physically fill the lungs. Many people don't breathe deeply. That's maybe why it feels like a strain to do it. Practicing this -- breathing deeply or other breathing methods -- will train the system to receive more oxygen. As it receives more oxygen, it is also receiving more Light which is the subtle aspect of oxygen that needs to be invited into an awake and alive system.

That is the purpose of breathing deeply. It is to wake up the system and to practice taking full breaths all the time. The density and heaviness and emotions like fear have contracted the ability to receive life force, so most people do need to practice stretching that muscle again. It is like a breathing workout. Perhaps you could take 10 deep breaths a day. Or perhaps you could engage in a pranayama exercise to engage the system in breathing more deeply.
